Hilarious video footage has emerged of the moment the Pope was handed a pizza by an ecstatic supporter in Naples.

In the short video uploaded to YouTube, Enzo Cacialli is seen leaping over a roadside barrier before presenting the gift by hand as Pope Francis speeds by in his popemobile.

The pizza-maker told local media outlets he was "full of joy that he accepted a pizza straight from my hands".

The Don Ernesto restaurateur, whose father made pizza for a visiting President Bill Clinton in 1994, also told Naples' Il Mattino newspaper that he used yellow tomatoes rather than red to reflect the colours of the Holy See.

The unusual encounter, captured by restaurant co-worker Antonio Greco, happened on Saturday during a one-day visit by the Pope to the city.

It comes after Francis revealed earlier this year the one thing he misses about life before becoming Pope is popping out to get his own pizza.
