Woman's body found on motorway

12 April 2012

Police have found the body of a woman on a motorway.

It was discovered on the northbound section of the M3 at junction 4a near Yateley in Hampshire at about 7am.

A Hampshire Police spokeswoman said the motorway was closed, causing substantial delays for London-bound commuters. Diversions were put in place.

Police said the woman was described as white and wearing pink trousers, a dark top and white trainers.

The spokeswoman said it was not clear how the woman died or how she came to be on the motorway.

The section of the M3 remained closed while a thorough examination of the scene took place.

Detectives were "keeping an open mind" over the circumstances surrounding the death but appealed for people who saw the woman or know someone matching her description to get in touch.
