A woman told her cheating husband she was leaving him with an message displayed at the side of a dual carriageway.

Known only as Lisa, the woman addressed the note to her despicable spouse "Paul", saying she had vacated their home after learning of his infidelity.

The short letter, which appeared on a digital billboard on Sheffield Parkway for just a few hours this morning, has become an online sensation.

It read: "To my cheating husband Paul. You deserve each other. When you get home I won't be there. Enjoy your drive to work! Lisa".

Speculation was rife online about the former couple's identity, with some suggesting they could have been invented for a publicity stunt.

Wes Metcalfe said: "I know who they both are - they're characters made up by Hallam FM in a desperate attempt to get more listeners. So lame."

Meanwhile many of those who believed the story praised Lisa on social media for her "calm" approach to the break-up.

One Twitter user said: "Remarkably calm message really. I would be far nastier."

Tracey Cockayne wrote: "Don't mess with Lisa ....brilliant".

Vanessa Griffith posted: "Wow what a brave woman, good on you Lisa and good luck with your future life without the scumbag to deal with".

Others were less sympathetic, appearing to side with the cheating husband.

Matthew Howe said: "Fair play to him... women are weird half the time anyway so why stick to just one, 10 out of 10 sir."

Luke Wheelmouse said: "Lisa will now have no job as well as no husband."
