Why you are six times more likely to win £25m on the National Lottery today

The £24.7million jackpot must be won or shared on Wednesday

The odds of winning the top prize in the National Lottery are six times more likely than usual this evening, experts say.

The £24.7million jackpot must be won or shared on Wednesday after 10 consecutive days with no winner.

If no-one matches all six main numbers, then the prize will be shared in the "next tier".

This means it is likely to be shared between players matching five main numbers and the bonus ball, which could create a lot of multi-millionaires.

The “must win” rule is triggered when the prize fund reaches £22million.

Dr Rob Mastrodomenico, founder of Global Sports Statistics, told the Mirror if the jackpot is one by five balls and a bonus ball, the odds drop from one in 45m to one in 7.5m.

These odds drop again to one in 150,000 if it's won by getting five balls and one in 2,000 if won by four balls.

Anna Rosato, Lotto Marketing Manager, said, “A life changing sum of money has to be won one way or another and we could see Lotto creating one giant winner or several multi-millionaires on Wednesday.

"Make sure you get your ticket early for a chance to be one of them."
