Tributes have been paid to a British teenager who plunged to her death from a cliff in Guyana.
Volunteer teacher Pamela McCarroll, 18, is understood to have slipped during a rock climb at the Tutawau Falls in South Central Rupunini.
Miss McCarroll, from Beith in Ayrshire, had been enjoying the beauty spot in the South American country with a friend on Sunday when she fell.
Police in Guyana are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
Miss McCarroll, from Beith in Ayrshire, had been working as a science teacher for the UK volunteer education charity, Project Trust. The organisation paid tribute to the "admirable, conscientious and hard-working" teenager.
Miss McCarroll's parents are Sheila, a doctor, and Peter.
She had been working in Guyana as a volunteer science teacher since September and was due to stay for a year. On her return to Scotland she had hoped to follow in her mother's footsteps by studying medicine at university.
The Guyana Police website said they were investigating the circumstances surrounding Miss McCarroll's death.
Miss McCarroll fell at around 2pm on Sunday.
Project Trust assistant director John Fraser is flying to Guyana while investigations into Miss McCarroll's death continue.
