UK cash pledge for Georgia crisis

The British Government has said it is set to commit up to £2m to the Red Cross appeal to provide aid in Georgia.

International Development Secretary Douglas Alexander said ministers are willing to donate the cash amid the chaos in Georgia following the invasion by Russian troops.

The money will help ICRC staff on the ground provide extra medical and surgical aid to the injured as well as restoring the water supply in Tskhinvali, South Ossetia's main town.
