This is how you should actually be pronouncing Primark

Meaghan Spencer20 August 2017

After years of speculation, Primark has stepped in to clear up confusion over the pronunciation of its name.

Shoppers took to social media in their droves claiming their side in the “Pry-mark” or “Pree-mark” debate.

But shoppers are divided and taking no victims with one adamant user saying: “Just unfollowed someone on Twitter for insisting it’s ‘obviously pronounced Pry-mark’.”

Others suggested the difference in pronunciation is down to geography.

“Looks like Manchester has been pronouncing Primark CORRECTLY,” tweets @DragonWolf5589.

“I have NEVER ever heard of anyone saying #preemark.”

With the argument undoubtedly causing dramatic rifts between friends and family, the cheap and cheerful shop has now weighed in to adjudicate on how we should be pronouncing the name in question.

In a notice on the retailer’s Customer Service section of their website, a handy box asks: “How do you pronounce Primark?”

The "Pry-mark"/"Pree-mark" debate has been finally put to bed

The official pronunciation as declared by the shop itself is “Pr-Eye-Mark”.
