Seven bin bags packed full of cannabis were discovered lying at the side of the road by council workers.

The surprising haul was found in North Yorkshire early on Sunday morning, the BBC reported.

Local Harrogate police officer, PC Amanda Hanusch-Moore, tweeted a picture of the drug stash.

She said: “Lost something? This was found in black bin bags last night on the A59 near Blubberhouses.

“If it’s yours come and speak to us at Harrogate Police station, we’re more than happy to discuss!”

One internet user attempted to crack a joke, commenting on the tweet: “If nobody claims it can my mate take it off your hands?”

The PC replied: “That’s very kind of your mate but we wouldn’t want to impose, put his mind at ease and we’ll destroy it for him!”

In October an American couple living in Florida were shocked to discover 65lb of cannabis stashed in their Amazon delivery.

The husband and wife had ordered four bins but instead received a haul of drugs.

Liberal Democrat Sir Edward Davey suggested the Home Office should tell police to prioritise cracking down on drug barons rather than "casual users".
