Poundland is embroiled in a legal battle with Toblerone over the launch of a new copycat version of the triangular chocolate bar.

The budget chain last month announced plans to start selling Twin Peaks, a sweet treat that bears resemblance to the Swiss chocolate.

Rather than the distinctive peak chunks that feature on a Toblerone bar, one of the discounter’s biggest sellers, Twin Peaks have two humps.

Fans eagerly awaiting the launch have reportedly been told by Poundland’s customer services that there is currently no release date.

The store has delayed the launch indefinitely after it received a legal letter from the Toblerone, according to the Guardian.

A spokesman for Poundland told the newspaper: “Twin Peaks is still in development.”

Instead of featuring the iconic Matterhorn on its red and gold packaging, the Poundland version features the Wrekin, a hill in Shropshire.

It is made in Birmingham rather than Switzerland, and at 180g, it is also 30g heavier than the £1 Toblerone currently available.

Twin Peaks bars were expected to hit shelves in Poundland stores in the first week of July.
