Payday lender Wonga releases film to show 'real stories' of its borrowers

Controversial payday lender Wonga has released a specially commissioned film in an attempt to show the "real stories" of it's borrowers.

The film, titled 12 Portraits, stars 12 Wonga customers in what the firm is billing as a "modern, authentic and relevant" portrait of British life.

"The reason we commissioned that film is that we wanted to redress the debate about Wonga out there," said Niall Wass, chief operating officer at Wonga, after the film's premiere in London last night.

Critics of the firm have said the video fails to show the many borrowers who have a very negative experience of payday loans.

"What we felt was that the voice of the silent majority was not being heard, but there were perceptions out there that weren't justified," added Mr Wass.
