No police probe over Prescott visit

12 April 2012

Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott will not face a police investigation over his stay at the ranch of the US tycoon bidding to open a supercasino at the Millennium Dome, Scotland Yard said.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed they had received a number of complaints that Mr Prescott breached the Prevention of Corruption Acts 1906 and 1916 by accepting hospitality from Philip Anschutz.

The spokesman said: "After scoping these allegations and taking advice from the Crown Prosecution Service, there is not sufficient basis for a criminal investigation."

Mr Prescott has always denied any wrongdoing over his stay at Mr Anschutz's ranch in Colorado, insisting that he was not involved in the award of the supercasino licence.

The complainants were reported to include Liberal Democrat MP Norman Baker and Windsor-based businessman George Bathurst.
