Murder probe after boy found dead

12 April 2012

A murder investigation is under way after a child's body was found inside a house.

The body of the five-year-old boy was discovered by paramedics called to a property in Corbar Road, Buxton, Derbyshire, shortly before 10.30am on Thursday.

A 43-year-old woman was also found unconscious in the house. She was detained by police and is receiving treatment in hospital.

A spokeswoman for Derbyshire Police confirmed the boy's death is being treated as suspicious but said nobody else is being sought in connection with the inquiry.

A post-mortem examination carried out on the child proved inconclusive and detectives are awaiting the results of further tests to establish a cause of death.

There was no evidence that a weapon was used on the youngster, the spokeswoman added.

The child has not yet been formally identified and no information has been revealed about the woman.
