Man in court on terror plot charges

A man has appeared in court accused of plotting to travel to Pakistan to commit acts of terrorism.

Amir Ali, 27, was charged by Metropolitan Police officers on Wednesday night.

He appeared at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court, in central London, to face a charge that between March 3 and March 15 "with the intention of committing acts of terrorism or of assisting another to commit acts, (you) engaged in conduct in preparation for giving effect to his intention".

District Judge Quentin Purdy remanded Ali in custody to appear at the Old Bailey for a preliminary hearing on October 16.
