Man admits nursing home murders

12 April 2012

A 20-year-old man has admitted murdering two women at a nursing home.

Nathan Mann spoke only to plead guilty at Nottingham Crown Court to murdering Rashmi Badiani, 56, and 72-year-old Radhaben Chauhan at the Hayes Park Nursing Home in Leicester last November.

Mann, of Avonside Drive, Crown Hills, Leicester, was dressed in jeans and a blue hooped sweater for the hearing.

He stood impassively, flanked by four security guards, as the two charges of murder were read to the court.

The women's bodies were discovered by a member of staff in the room they shared at the nursing home.

The case was adjourned until July 30 for the preparation of a pre-sentence report into Mann's psychological state.

In a statement issued after the hearing, the officer who led the police investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Phil Smith, of Leicestershire Police, said Mann was "a violent and dangerous individual".

He said: "He took the lives of two defenceless, vulnerable women in an unprovoked and cowardly attack as they lay in their beds.

"This was a horrific incident that has devastated two families now united in grief.

"The guilty pleas have spared them the distress that a full trial would bring."
