Luxury car workers in pay strike

12 April 2012

Hundreds of workers at luxury car giant Aston Martin will take industrial action on Friday in a row over pay.

Members of the Transport and General Workers Union at Gaydon in Warwickshire and Newport Pagnall in Buckinghamshire will strike for one hour before launching a ban on overtime.

The union said its members had voted overwhelmingly to take action in protest at a two-year pay offer worth 4% in year one and inflation plus 0.5% in year two, as well as a merit award worth an average of 2.25%.

"The message from the ballots we've had and the feedback from the shopfloor is the company hasn't done enough to sort out the inequalities in the pay structures," said a union spokesman.

The T&G said it has over 650 members at the two Aston Martin sites.
