London weather: Storm Barney to bring heavy downpours and high winds to the capital

Rachel Blundy17 November 2015

Londoners face heavy downpours and wind tomorrow as Storm Barney - the second officially named storm - hits southern parts of the UK.

The capital will endure rain and high winds as gales of up to 80mph look set to batter other parts of the country.

Temperatures will rise slightly to about 15 degrees celsius tomorrow but the change will be accompanied by windy conditions.

The Met Office has issued a yellow "be aware" warning for strong winds for parts southern, central and eastern England for Tuesday afternoon and into the evening.

It has warned people to expect travel disruptions if rising water levels lead to flooding in some areas.

This week's UK weather- 16-20 November

Craig Woolhouse, director of incident management at the Environment Agency, said: "The public should remain alert to the risk of flooding and stay away from raging rivers.

"With so much standing water around, we ask people to stay out of flood water and not attempt to walk or drive through it."

Storm Barney is the second storm to be named under the "name our storms" project by the Met Office and Met Eireann, which asked the public to suggest names.

Last week, Storm Abigail left more than 20,000 homes without power and schools closed in Shetland and the Western Isles as it swept across Britain.
