Liv Tyler and Poppy Delevingne were among donors who helped raise more than £400,000 for food surplus charity The Felix Project through a 300-mile cycle ride.

Fashion designer Julien Macdonald and co founder of Quintessentially, Ben Elliot, were among the team who joined 52 other cyclists on the Quintessentially Foundation Annual Charity Bike Ride from Zagreb to Split in Croatia this week.

The team covered the distance in only four days, despite strong winds and temperatures above 40C.

More than £125,000 of the total came directly from Mr Elliot’s fundraising with donations and sponsorship secured to his own page from the likes of Sir Elton John and David Furnish, Sophie Dahl, and many others.

Mr Elliot said: “This years Quintessentially Foundation Annual Charity Bike Ride was in support of Britain’s most dynamic new charity The Felix Project, that is at the forefront of the fight against food waste.

"A cause very close to my heart as the government’s Food Surplus and Waste Champion. The money raised from the bike ride will be enough to fully fund their central London operations for the next two years. Myself and the whole team at Quintessentially Foundation couldn’t be more proud.”

The ride has raised £3 million for 10 charities since 2008. This year’s event was sponsored by the MARC Group and in partnership with Velusso.

Backers supported The Felix Project as well as the Foundation. The Felix Project, the charity at the heart of the Standard’s Food for London Campaign, redistributes 30 tonnes of surplus food to 250 charities in the capital each week.
