Kew bridge incident: Man dies after being rescued from the Thames in west London

A man has died and another is in a serious condition after being rescued from the Thames in west London.

The coastguard said two people were rescued from the water following an incident earlier today in Kew.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said officers had been called to the scene after receiving reports that two people had jumped from Kew Bridge.

The London Ambulance Service said one man was pronounced dead at the scene after being rescued from the water. The other was taken to a major trauma centre.

Diversions are currently in place in the area.

The LAS spokesman said: “We were called at 12:37pm today (9 September) to reports of an incident on Corney Reach Way, Chiswick.

"We sent two ambulance crews, an incident response officer, two medics in cars and an advanced paramedic to the scene. We also dispatched our hazardous area response team (HART) and London's Air Ambulance.

"We treated two men at the scene. Sadly, despite the efforts of medics, a man died at the scene.

"We took the second man to a major trauma centre as a priority."

The Met spokesman said: "We were called to the scene at around 12.30 to reports of two people having jumped off the bridge."
