High class costume drama Downton Abbey has bagged four nominations at the prestigious Golden Globes on a good day for British television talent.
The ITV1 show, which follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants, is one of five contenders for the best mini-series or movie award.
It faces competition from US shows and BBC drama The Hour.
Three of its stars also got nods with Hugh Bonneville, who plays the Earl of Grantham, nominated for best actor in a mini-series or movie award.
American Elizabeth McGovern, who plays his on-screen wife, is shortlisted for the best actress in a mini-series or movie award. That category is also dominated by UK talent with English actresses Romola Garai, Emily Watson and Kate Winslet all getting nods.
Garai is nominated for her role in The Hour, Winslet for Mildred Pierce and Watson for the ITV1 Fred West drama Appropriate Adult.
British stars Idris Elba, Bill Nighy and Dominic West are also shortlisted for their roles in BBC dramas Luther, Page Eight and The Hour respectively.
Dame Maggie Smith, who plays the Earl's mother, is nominated for the best supporting actress in a series, mini-series or movie. She is joined in the shortlist by Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald, recognised for her role in the prohibition-era drama Boardwalk Empire, and stars including Jessica Lange and Evan Rachel Wood.
Other Brits recognised by the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which organises the awards, include Jeremy Irons and Damian Lewis who are nominated for best actor in a television drama for their roles in The Borgias and Homeland respectively.
The awards, which also recognise big screen talent, will be held in Los Angeles on January 15 and will again be hosted by Ricky Gervais, despite the Office star causing controversy last year with his sharp-tongued presenting style.
