Staff at Five Guys burger chain are the latest to receive more meat in their pay packets ahead of the next year's planned National Living Wage.

The company, which has 11 restaurants in London, has announced the hourly rate will rise to £7.20 an hour for its 1,155 UK employees.

It comes after Costa Coffee owner Whitbread revealed they were increasing staff pay along with Lidl and Morrisons before the National Living Wage is introduced next April.

John Eckbert, CEO of Five Guys UK says: “We are really proud to be one of the first companies in the UK to reward our staff in this way for their outstanding contribution to the business.

"Since opening our first store in 2013, the popularity of Five Guys has increased significantly, becoming the fastest growing concept in the fast casual restaurant sector in UK history, which is down to the amazing contribution from our team.

“We believe that this scheme will continue to set us apart from other companies and provide an attractive offering to existing and new employees.

"The Five Guys team works extremely hard and we strive to continuously reward their on-going commitment."

The company's mystery shopping programme - which enables workers to receive bonuses for good customer service - can boost the hourly rate by an extra £1.34 an hour

In July, Chancellor George Osborne announced the government will introduce a compulsory minimum wage for all staff over 25 years, and referred to as the ‘national living wage’.
