A female nipple has appeared on daytime TV for the first time in the UK.

The fully visible nipple featured on a film by breast cancer charity Coppafeel! during Good Morning Britain on Friday.

The advert, which encourages people to check their nipples and breast tissue regularly, was shown as part of a discussion about the disease.

It shows women and men checking their bodies with their hands alongside inanimate objects including bread dough, jelly and basket balls.

Love Island star Olivia Buckland, television presenter AJ Odudu, blogger Anna Newton all feature in the clip which will be broadcast in full on Monday.

Both 60 and 40-second versions will run on TV and in cinemas during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

According to the charity, one in eight women in the UK will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.

Some 400 men a year are also diagnosed with the disease.

Almost nine in 10 women survive breast cancer for five years or more, while every year about 11,400 people die from breast cancer in the UK.

Natalie Kelly, CEO of CoppaFeel!, told the BBC: "In demonstrating the power of our hands and celebrating our touch as the best tool for checking, we hope to encourage more young people across the UK to adopt a healthy boob-checking habit, which could one day save their life."
