The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge celebrated their seven-year anniversary days after welcoming their third child by sharing a throwback snap of them on their wedding day.

Prince William and Kate married at Westminster Abbey on April 29 2011 in a service watched by more than 36 million television viewers.

After the traditional service, which was followed by a carriage procession from the Abbey to Buckingham Palace, William drove his new wife from the palace to his then home Clarence House in an Aston Martin convertible.

Kensington Palace Twitter feed shared a picture of the couple in the car – which had been lent to William by his father Prince Charles – to mark their wedding anniversary on Sunday.

The blue vintage car – a DB6 Volante – had been given to Prince Charles by the Queen as a 21st birthday present.

For the wedding, it was decorated by Prince Harry – William’s best man – and friends who attached heart-shaped balloons to it and added a rear number plate saying "JU5T WED”.

“Seven years ago today - thank you for all the lovely messages on The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding anniversary!” the palace tweeted.

After showing their newborn off to the press on the steps of the Lindo Wing, Paddington, the couple took him home to Kensington Palace to settle in as a family of five.

The Duchess is still on maternity leave and has refrained from attending official duties, but she is expected to attend the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on May 19.

Louis, who will be less than a month old, is not expected to be taken to the wedding but George and Charlotte will likely steal some of the limelight from Harry and Meghan by acting as pageboy and flower girl.
