Disabled man kicked down the stairs in shocking CCTV footage

Hannah Al-Othman19 November 2015

A disabled man was kicked down the stairs by a vicious thug who assaulted him and stole his phone.

Filmed outside the Intu Shopping Centre in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, the CCTV footage captured Dean Smith repeatedly approach his disabled victim, Gary Hackney, who was on the phone.

Mr Hackney can be seen on camera clearly trying to evade Smith, who follows him, speaking to him aggressively before kicking him hard in the back, causing him to tumble down the stone steps.

Smith then persues his victim down the stairs, and drags him by his coat, as Mr Hackney, who has lost his walking stick, struggles to break free.

Mr Hackney fights back, and the pair scuffle briefly before Smith picks up his victim's belongings, and calmly walks away.

Smith, 46, of no fixed address was jailed for four years on Friday at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court after he pleaded guilty to robbery and theft.
