‘Did Elton think about me?' says man named John Lewis after Christmas ad airs

An American man named John Lewis quipped: "Did Elton think about me before he agreed to do this?" as he was inundated with Twitter messages after the retailers new Christmas ad aired.

The long-awaited John Lewis advert was revealed today, and tells the touching story about Elton John receiving his life-changing gift of a piano for Christmas as a boy.

The advert has been widely praised by many, with some hailing it as an “absolute triumph”.

But the man named John Lewis, who is inundated with Twitter notifications anually, said: “Beautiful. But did Elton think once about me before he agreed to do this?”

Mr Lewis, whose Twitter bio even includes “not a retail store”, said he deliberately slept in this morning, before adding it was a “big mistake”.

He added: “The only thing I contributed to this ad was to buy every Elton John album throughout my life.”

Mr Lewis had users on Twitter even tagging him to say: “I wouldn’t want to be John Lewis today”.

To which he replied, “Neither would I”.

This year’s advert sees Elton John, 71, at various stages in his glitzy career and is accompanied by his best-selling hit, Your Song.

As soon as it was posted, people on social media rushed to share their opinion of the advert.

Making reference to the popular song, Mr Lewis received a tweet saying: “And you can tell everybody, this is (not) your advert.”

Another wrote that they teared up during the ending of the advert, where a Young Elton rushes to open the piano on Christmas Day in his pyjamas.

Mr Lewis said: “I teared up a bit, too. But for different reasons”.

Peter Hague playfully pointed out to Mr Lewis, in response: “On the plus side, you may be getting a piano for Christmas”.
