A woman has been killed after a car smashed into the side of a house in Somerset.

The vehicle came off the road and careered into the property in Clevedon at about 8.30pm on Friday.

Avon and Somerset Police said significant damage was caused to the home and "tragically a woman inside has died".

The woman's family have been informed of her death following the collision in Yeolands Drive, the force added.

Officers said the occupants of the vehicle, a man and a woman, were arrested and have been taken into custody.

Residents of neighbouring houses on the street were evacuated for the night due to fears a gas pipe was damaged in the crash.
