Boy dies as car mounts pavement

12 April 2012

An 11-year-old boy died after a car mounted a pavement and crashed into a group of pedestrians, police said.

Police are now hunting the female driver of the vehicle who fled the scene.

The boy was taken to hospital but died from his injuries after the crash in Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol, at 9.15pm on Friday night.

Police said a white Ford Focus estate car was travelling along Eastfield Road towards the centre of the village when it left the road, mounted the pavement and hit a group of pedestrians walking in the opposite direction.

A man received minor injuries and was released later that evening after receiving hospital treatment.

The three other pedestrians, all children, were uninjured.

Officers want to hear from witnesses to the crash or anyone who may have seen the woman who is white, with long blonde hair and in her mid-thirties.

Detective Inspector Ian Chadwick of Avon and Somerset Police appealed to the woman to come forward.

"If you were the person involved in this collision please come forward so that we can talk to you about what happened," he said.
