12 April 2012

A boy has died after he was found in a pond, police said.

The child, aged under five, was reported missing at 10.40am on Sunday after he disappeared from the Barrow Haven area of Lincolnshire.

Humberside Police said officers attended immediately but by the time they arrived the boy had been found in a pond.

He was taken to hospital in Hull where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Police said they could not give an exact age for the boy, but that he was under five.

A force spokesman said the circumstances were not being treated as suspicious and a file was being prepared for the Coroner.

He said: "Police officers and paramedics treated him at the scene before he was taken by ambulance to Hull Royal Infirmary, however, he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later."
