A weatherman celebrated the one-year anniversary of his BBC News theme drumming video by performing live on BBC North West Tonight.

Owain Wyn Evans delighted the nation in April 2020 while working from home, finishing his weather segment by hopping onto his drumkit and playing along to the channel’s well-known news theme.

The video he shared to Twitter has been viewed more than six million times since, and on Thursday he got the chance to celebrate with a live gig.

“It’s been one year since our very own @OwainWynEvans went viral with his drum version of the BBC News theme,” tweeted BBC North West.

“So we got him to recreate it on this evening’s BBC North West Tonight.”

“Oh my, this is like deja vu isn’t it, maybe I’ll do it again!” Wyn Evans said before showing off his musical talent.

“LIVE Drum Smiling face with open mouth and tightly-closed eyes this was so much fun!” he tweeted afterwards.

The presenter thanked the team that helped arrange the performance on Twitter, and explained how the margin for error was very narrow.

“I had to finish my weather to the second before the 1 min BBC News ramp fires (1 min before the end of the show) giving 15 seconds to mince to the drums and play out to time,” he wrote.

“I was wearing in ear monitors to hear everything.”

The weatherman had previously attracted attention on social media when in 2017 to mark International Drag Day he created a Ru Paul’s Drag Race-themed weather forecast.
