Americans have mocked Brits for approaching Black Friday in a “polite and orderly" fashion.

Black Friday, an American tradition, has become notorious in the country for chaos and violence between shoppers. But as Twitter users pointed out this was not reflected in the UK.

The consumer event of the year launched without the expected fanfare as shoppers pointed out empty shopping centres and a distinct lack of queues.

One viral video showed just two men waiting to enter Curry’s PC World’s flagship Oxford Street store, leading Twitter users to joke that this was Black Friday “British style”.

Others posted their own calm, Black Friday scenes:

Americans on Twitter speculated over the reasons behind the lack of chaos. One reasoned that Brits weren’t “crazy”:

Others put it down to politeness:

Another expressed their disbelief at the scenes:

One person said they thought British Black Friday deals were relatively restrained compared to those on offer in America:

Some Brits were unimpressed by the UK’s adoption of the American tradition.
