The RMT union came under growing pressure today to call off next week’s planned strikes as talks resume with Tube bosses over possible ticket office closures.

Speaking ahead of talks at Acas tomorrow morning, Tube chief Mike Brown said: “We have made significant changes to our original proposals after listening to our people and the unions.

“The only sensible course is for the RMT leadership to join us and the other unions in continuing discussions and to work with us... rather than threatening more disruption.” Members of the RMT are due to walk out for three days next week, starting at 9pm on Monday.

The union’s members face losing another three days of pay if the strike goes ahead. Yesterday’s strike figures showed that London Underground carried 58 per cent of normal Tube traffic, while buses made 7.1 million journeys and cycle hire users reached a record 49,000.
