'Euston can't cope with HS2 influx'

London’s public transport will not be able to cope with the extra passengers arriving on the High Speed 2 link from the North, the boss of the Tube warned today.

Transport for London’s Mike Brown called on the Government to back a new “Crossrail 2” line which he said would be needed to cope with passengers arriving at the HS2 terminus in Euston.

TfL estimates peak passenger numbers at Euston would jump from 23,500 in 2009 to 57,000 in 2033 when HS2 is due to open fully. Mr Brown said: “You have to build Crossrail 2 or Euston falls apart.” But he added that it must not be at the expense of upgrades to the Tube.
