Animal lovers came together to form a “living” artwork in the shape of a polar bear to raise awareness of the threat posed to the species by Arctic ice loss.

The supporters of the Arctic Home project gathered at ExCeL London to create the display, above, as a survey showed that two thirds of people believe it will take more than a century for the region’s ice to melt.

Recent research suggests it could in fact be as early as 2050. As conditions change, pregnant bears are forced to find new territory suitable to build dens and raise cubs.

The World Wildlife Fund is partnering with Coca-Cola on Arctic Home, which is raising funds to sponsor technology, pay for research and track bears to ensure they can find a safe place to give birth. Coca-Cola is matching all donations up to £800,000.
