Eurostar passengers in and out of London's St Pancras station have been struck by delays thanks to a "broken rail" in the Channel Tunnel.

Travellers using the London-Paris link, as well as Eurotunnel passengers, have been told to expect significant disruption as trains are being forced to share one track.

A statement on the Eurotunnel website states those travelling from Folkestone are experiencing waits of 60 minutes at check-in and five hours at the terminal.

Eurostar has also informed passengers of delays to its services caused by the broken rail.

The Eurotunnel statement says: "Our passenger service is currently operating with some timetable disruption, this is due to a technical fault in the Tunnel which is in the process of being resolved.

"There is a waiting time of approximately 60 minutes before check-in and five hours on the terminal. We regret that we are currently unable to sell tickets to non-reserved customers."

It adds that services from Calais are operating to schedule.

Eurostar is responding to customers on Twitter, saying: "There is a broken rail in the tunnel, so trains are sharing one track. We do apologise for the delays."
