Biker killed in Islington hit and run

Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run.

A taxi driver stopped after the crash in Baring Road, Islington at 6pm yesterday, but the driver of a green people carrier drove off after pulling over briefly at New North Road.

The biker, a man in his twenties, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers from the Road Death Investigation Unit at Northolt are leading the inquiry.

Detective Sergeant Chris Osborne of the unit said: "We will be studying CCTV from the area, and I appeal to the driver of the vehicle involved to come forward.

"Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact police as soon as possible."

There has been no arrest.

A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.
