In this special episode, we look at the technology and science behind HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’.

VFX supervisor on the hit TV series, Stephen James from DNEG Vancouver, reveals how they created the post-apocalyptic world that characters Joel and Ellie (played by the Mandolarian star Pedro Pascal and Game of Thrones’ Bella Ramsey) have to navigate.

Stephen shares his insight on what goes into creating a show of this scale, including the elaborate sets and complex camera shots.

In part two, Elaine Bignell, Professor of Medical Mycology at the University of Exeter, explains whether a fungal pandemic like the one portrayed in The Last of Us, could ever actually happen.

She also discusses how the show is helping people learn about fungi and inspire budding scientists.
