Pokémon GO: Iran becomes first country to ban game as it cites 'security concerns'

Iran has become the first country to ban hit mobile game Pokémon Go, due to “security concerns”.

The Supreme Council of Virtual Spaces, the official body overseeing online activit in the country, took the decision to ban the popular augmented reality game.

Iranian authorities had reportedly been waiting to see if the game’s creators would co-operate with them before officially banning it.

The Middle Eastern state is not the first place to express security concerns related to the game, which requires users to walk around real-world locations hunting Pokémon.

Authorities in New York state last week announced they would ban around 3,000 registered sex offenders from playing the game while on parole, in order to safeguard children playing.

In London, three teenagers were robbed at gunpoint while Pokémon Go in Whittington Parl.

A French player was arrested last month after straying on to a military base while searching for a Pokémon, while police in Indonesia have been banned from playing while on duty.
