Fed up of spending a small fortune on your monthly iPhone payments? It turns out smartphones don’t have to cost an arm and leg, as relatively-unknown Indian firm Ringing Bells have proved.
The company have unveiled the Freedom 251 – a smartphone that costs just £2.50.
The handset is launching in India, so named because it only costs 251 rupees (approximately £2.56).
Ringing Bells launched in September 2015, and have described the Freedom 251 as their ‘flagship model’.
“This is our flagship model and we think it will bring a revolution in the industry,” a spokesperson said to the AFP.
The phone boasts a 4” display, 1GB of RAM, an 8GB hard drive (expandable up to 32GB), and a 3.2 megapixel camera. It also features a 0.3-megapixel selfie camera, and can connect to 3G networks.
Orders for the phone begin from 6am on February 18, with deliveries due to be complete by June 30.

On the official Freedom 451 site, Ringing Bells explain that their vision with the product is to “empower citizens, even in the remotest rural and semi-urban centres of India”.
