After a five year absence, the Guitar Hero gaming franchise has announced a comeback due later in the year. Guitar Hero Live will see the series make the leap to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with stellar graphics, a new setting, and redesigned guitar controller.

As you’d guess from its title, Guitar Hero Live now pitches gamers in first person mode, playing in front of a stadium crowd who react to how well you’re scoring. Hit all the right notes and they’ll love you for it. Fluff too many in a row and you’ll be pelted with plastic cups and told that “you suck”. Crikey.

Another new play mode is a bit more casual, allowing gamers to play over the top of official music videos in a library set to be constantly updated.

All-new: the updated controller for Guitar Hero Live

The biggest news, though, is the arrival of the new guitar controller. Where the original games had five notes on the fretboard, the new guitar has six, this time arranged in two rows of three. The move has proved controversial for fans of the original games, who will now have to amend their playing style to the new controller.

There is no set release date for the game yet. However, it is due to arrive this Autumn – just in time for the Christmas shopping.
