Theresa May and her husband Philip took the mountain air in Switzerland today at the start of their summer holiday.

Wearing sturdy boots, carrying rucksacks and hiking sticks, they trekked through a forest in the Swiss Alps basking in glorious sunshine.

Mrs May, who has been working very long hours since becoming Prime Minister just weeks ago, has previously told how she loves holidaying in Switzerland to find “peace and quiet”.

The couple first visited the country more than 30 years ago and have been going back “ever since” to various beauty spots.

Mrs May, who has told of her admiration for Angela Merkel, has been compared in her political style and approach to the German Chancellor who also enjoys walking holidays.
