David Cameron was told to "shut up" by broadcaster Andrew Marr during an appearance on the BBC yesterday.

As the Andrew Marr Show drew to a close yesterday, the Prime Minister was interrupted by the presenter as he tried to discuss the schoolgirls kidnapped by the Boko Haram Islamist group in Nigeria.

Footage published online shows Marr appearing to say: "I, I…Prime Minister shut up I’m afraid. I’m really, really sorry, we have run out of time."

But instead of the interruption sparking the Prime Minister's fury, Mr Cameron obeyed, hurriedly replying: "I’ve gone on, sorry."

His appearance on the show was a major date for the Conservatives as they look to close the gap on Ukip ahead of this month's European elections.

While being quizzed by Marr on BBC One on Sunday morning, the Prime Minister pledged to hold a referendum on the UK's membership in 2017.

The atmosphere after the show was said to be amicable, and the BBC said it has not received a complaint from Number 10 after the incident.
