After Jeremy Irons’s fears that gay marriage will lead to fathers marrying sons for inheritance tax breaks, his onscreen child may wish to eat his words.

Tom Hiddleston, who played Irons’s son in the BBC’s Henry IV, tweeted fondness for the actor last month by quoting a line from the play: “And in the closing of some glorious day/be bold to tell you that I am your son”. Perhaps familial bonds are best left unsaid.
