‘Sloth’ Mary Beard dashes out a riposte to her detractor

The Londoner’s pin-up, Mary Beard, was accused yesterday of wasting time on Twitter by noting the lack of grey-haired women in an M&S ad.

David Vance, whose Twitter biography tells us he is “a man out of time”, managed to find a spare second to dash out a tweet to Beard.

“I see @wmarybeard highlights lack of grey haired women in ads … Anyone else think she has too much spare time?”

The classicist and TV presenter responded to the allegations of sloth by reminding her accuser of the brief nature of 140-character updates. “All I did was one tweet yesterday,” said Beard. “It took 45 seconds. Wasn’t an article or statement but a tweet. If only I did have some spare time.”
