Murray Lachlan Young, who in the Nineties became the first poet to be given a £1 million deal, brought his new play The Incomers to the Pleasance Theatre in Islington last night. “It’s a Cornish black comedy, sex and drugs with perfectly seared scallops,” he told me. “Sort of Ortonesque, with cocaine.”
Actor Rhys Ifans was in the audience and very taken with the oversized sea bass which features in the play and has its own poem. “It’s forensic and brilliant,” he declared.
Actor Kevin Allen, who is working on a documentary about Dylan Thomas with Ifans, thinks the play would make a great movie. “It’s excellent,” he said. All was washed down with wine from the Camel Valley. Sparkling, of course.
