So will Nadine Dorries, the Tory MP who had the party whip withdrawn when she went into the I’m a Celebrity... jungle, follow Ann Widdecombe on to Strictly Come Dancing?

Widdecombe thinks she should. “Well, she couldn’t possibly be a worse dancer than me,” said the former Tory MP dubbed “Doris Karloff” when she was in office, whom the Strictly judges compared to a hippo and the aircraft carrier Ark Royal.

Widdecombe, who was doing a Q&A session on her autobiography Strictly Ann at Daunt Books in Marylebone, had another suggestion. “I partnered Peter Mandelson at a charity event, he is a very graceful mover.”
