Lenny Henry’s got the bow factor

Lenny Henry has received splendid reviews for his lead role in August Wilson’s play, Fences at the Duchess Theatre. So no wonder that in addition to the customary curtain call with the rest of the cast he has been doing two solo bows as well. Henry has been doing it at several performances and one who saw him in the same role before it came to the West End says he did the same then.

“It is the sort of thing you might expect from a superstar, though in fact the stage greats such as Dench and Jacobi tend to keep their egos in check, knowing that you only earn envy by behaving like that,” says my man in the stalls. “Lenny is pretty good. In fact, he is notably good. But is he good enough for two solo bows?”
