Grayson Perry presented Channel 4’s inaugural 4Culture talk at Home House entitled Sex and Drugs and PR Obligations.

“The horrible thing about being a transvestite,” Perry explained with the help of a photo of the artist in an M&S dress taken 30 years ago, “is that you have the look before you have the budget or the confidence.”

Perry defended the cost of art by drawing attention to historical precedents.

“When Henry VIII commissioned the Abraham tapestries, they cost as much as a battleship,” he said. “My tapestries cost the same as a family car.”
