For Vicky Pryce it was party, party before the storm

Without Chris Huhne, Vicky Pryce’s annual post-Davos party is going from strength to strength.

Among the Pryce loyalists who showed up this weekend were economist Will Hutton, Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee, Lord Maclennan of Rogart, former president of the Lib-Dems, and the former Labour MP Denis MacShane, who has been seen on Pryce’s arm quite a few times recently.

The party was traditionally held by Huhne and Pryce until the former energy secretary and now soon-to-be former MP waltzed off with Carina Trimingham in 2010. The Londoner did not spy Business Secretary Vince Cable at the party, though he may have put in an earlier appearance.

It was judged a triumphant affair before the battle of this week’s court case begins. “The opening line of Byron’s poem about the eve of Waterloo came to mind,” one guest said as he surveyed the crammed room. “‘There was a sound of revelry by night’ etc ...”
