The lion may not yet be lying down with the lamb but the next best thing is happening in South London. The Chinese are in talks to relocate their UK embassy from Portland Place to Nine Elms, where they will be the next-door neighbours of the new US embassy.

And in case one or both of these tigers decide to bare their teeth, who better to step in and keep the peace than the embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which is also decamping to the area.

Developer Ballymore has confirmed that the Dutch Embassy is to move to its Embassy Gardens scheme from its current Hyde Park Gate location in 2017.

When the Americans announced their move to Vauxhall a few years ago, the response was “WHERE?” By the time their new embassy is completed, also in 2017, Nine Elms will be well on its way to becoming London’s Diplomatic District.
