Even grumpy Jeremy Paxman is getting into the Christmas spirit

Even Jeremy Paxman is getting in the festive spirit. The Newsnight presenter’s publisher, Penguin, has persuaded him to join fellow authors Emma Thompson, Jamie Oliver and Clare Balding for a filmed reading of The Night Before Christmas poem, which they hope will rival the John Lewis and M&S Christmas ads.

Paxman will recite the lines that describe St Nick: “His eyes — how they twinkled! His dimples: how merry, / His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry; / His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, / And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.”
