Design’s brightest sparks

Fashion designer Roksanda Ilincic and design critic Alice Rawsthorn attended the London Design Festival dinner last night at Aqua Shard.

Fellow guests Thomas Heatherwick, creator of the Olympic cauldron, and duo Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, responsible for the torch, looked back on their moment in history even as the Prince of Cambridge had his across town.

“London has so many facets to it that there will always be something to celebrate,” said Barber, “so we must be doing something right.”

Heatherwick explained that things haven’t slowed down since the Games’ opening ceremony. “It’s been the opposite of a lull,” he said. “My passion is the public realm we share together and I love bringing forth those kinds of ideas.”
